Your side store is one of your best opportunities to make money. Once you hit level 5, you can unlock the side store, which then allows you to make money simply by selling any item that you want to. You can list items in the store for any price that you want to. This includes crops, feed for animals, items that are cooked in the bakery, and supplies used for stuff such as expansions or clearing debris.
Random people can buy from your store when they visit (which is why you should maximize your social rating), but your neighbors are the most likely customers. Add as many neighbors as absolutely possible so that they are more likely to visit your store. Buy items from their (and other random people’s) stores, or work to earn them. Then, remember what you bought them for, and sell them for a profit.
If you buy large quantities of one item, especially the expansion-related goods or goods needed to repair a building that has been expanded to, then sell them in smaller quantities for a higher price per unit. This is likely to earn you a lot of sales, so save your coins up in order to buy items at a discount in larger quantities.
To ensure that your store gets the maximum amount of visits and exposure as possible, go to neighbors’ farms and help out until you get your social rating up to at least three hearts. Getting it all the way up to four hearts will guarantee that you are at the top of every single “community” list that you pop up on, making it VERY easy to make sales, even if you set the prices way above the market price.
Restore the news stand as soon as possible after you restore the side store. This makes it so that your items will be listed in the newspaper, and using the newspaper also makes it far easier to find more (and cheaper) items to buy. Buy up any super low priced goods that you see on the news stand, control the market, and then resell them for an easy profit.
