Harry Potter: Wizards Unite: Oddity Trace and Fortress Wizarding Challenges Guide

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is Niantic’s new game where the Calamity has sent all sorts of Foundables from Hogwarts into the muggle world, threatening to break the secrecy treaty. This brings with it a ton of challenges to complete.

Chief among them are Oddity Trace and Wizarding Challenges in the Fortress, which are two different ways of confronting Confoundables and rescuing Foundables.

What are they? Glad you asked. Read on for the guide on Oddity Trace challenges and Fortress Wizarding Challenges.

Traces and Oddity Traces

The Traces are exactly what they sound like. Those are the challenges where you trace out a spell to drive off a Confoundable and rescue a Foundable. A combination of speed and accuracy is needed in order to be successful. Early on, speed is paramount, and accuracy is not extremely important.

Later on in the game, though, as challenges toughen up, accuracy becomes a little more important than speed. You need to have both in certain measures, though; no accuracy means that the spell won’t cast, and no speed means that the spell simply won’t do anything, and you’ll waste all of your spell energy.

You can use Exstimulo potion for various purposes; one of them is to strengthen the spells that you cast. Also, be sure to go to each Inn that you find to restore your spell energy. Inns generally are at the same places as Pokestops would be in Pokemon GO. Historic city areas and old-town areas in your city are good examples of this, and look for sponsored places (Starbucks, etc) to pop in soon as well.

Oddities can often do damage to you and drain your stamina in trace battles. So be sure to carry healing potions with you so that you can recover your stamina when needed.

Fortresses and Wizarding Challenges

Fortresses can be found on the world map, and can best be compared to gyms in Pokemon GO, except with more complex battle mechanics. You battle against extra strong confoundables in Wizarding Challenges, in something similar to the raid battles in Pokemon GO; where this becomes unique is in the professions.

Professions can be unlocked at level six. You can be a Magizoologist, which is a healer and tank, an Auror, which is heavy damage dealer, or a Professor, who has a good combination of all stats. For the purposes of Fortresses, Magizoologists are extra important, due to their added strength against elite characters.

You can attempt to play Fortress battles by yourself, but your efforts will be far more effective when you play with other players, whether they are your friends, or just strangers you meet up with at a particular fortress, or even people you meet on your local Discord chat or Facebook group. You’re best served by having players representative of all three professions doing battle at the same time, as their strengths can help each other, and their weaknesses can be mitigated by other players’ strengths.

The point of the Wizarding Challenges/Fortress Battles is that they can get you special categories of stickers in the Registry under the Challenge tab. Challenge tab Foundables can only be had from Fortresses, are far rarer, and will earn you chests with far larger rewards.

Participating in the Wizarding Challenge costs Runestones. Get more Runestones the same way as you get gold and ingredients; open chests, complete achievements, and more.
