Before you try to go into the versus modes, be sure to take your time to learn how to get a good drift going by utilizing the single-player mode. Each run on the track is endless, so you can go for as long as you want to.

When you get to a turn, an easy way to begin the drift is to use the handbrake or to tap the accelerator on and off. Be sure that you don’t approach the turn with too much speed or you’ll smash into a wall or go off of the course onto the dirt.

The way to keep a drift going for the longest time possible is to hold the accelerator and let your finger off of the steering buttons. If you approached the turn at the right speed and the right angle, then you can use this technique to hold the drift all the way through the turn.

Oftentimes, if you run off of the course or even if you run into a berm and go airborne, you’ll still keep racking up points as long as your finger is on the accelerator. Just keep accelerating until the points stop increasing, and you can often end up with huge, 2,000-3,000+ point totals.

Tuning your car is the most important modification that you can make, and most of the tuning is free. The part that makes the most difference is the ECU tune, where you can increase the redline and the boost from the turbo. This increases power, which makes it easier to stay in a drift, and makes it easier to take a larger angle on a drift.

Other tunes, which all show up in the “Adjust wheels” part, include the wheel size, suspension height, wheel camber, track width, and tire pressure. The best tune for these is not a sure thing, so experiment with all of these to see what works best for your specific setup and your style of play.

As you earn more cash, you can buy all kinds of new parts in the store, but these are entirely cosmetic, so there’s no point in spending your cash on them if all you want to do is increase your performance. Your main purpose for these is to make your car look exactly how you want it to.

If you don’t care about changing the appearance of your car, you can also save up your cash and buy an entirely new car. You start the game with lower-powered, older cars, but as you build up more cash, you can buy newer, more powerful, and more expensive cars. The most powerful car that you can buy (and the most expensive) is the Nissan R35 GT-R.
