Hot Wheels: Race Off is a new iOS and Android game by Hutch that combines the Hot Wheels franchise with Hill Climb Racing-style gameplay. Your goal is to win races against computer-controller or player-controlled opponents, unlock and upgrade new vehicles, and collect coins and gems. Read on for some tips and tricks for Hot Wheels: Race Off!

Gems are the premium currency of the game, and while they are available for purchase, you can get a ton of them for free very easily. The main way to get free gems is to go to the main menu and click on the “Ads” button in the top left corner of the screen. An ad video will pop up. Wait for the video to finish playing. When it’s done, you will earn 100 free gems. You can watch these videos as often as you’d like, as long as you have an internet connection.

That’s not all. If you tap on the timed rewards button up top, you will earn free gems, as well. When you open the gem box, you can double it in exchange for watching an ad video. The free gift box comes back once every six hours, so keep checking back to earn as many free gems as possible. You can open a stunt box once every 24 hours for free gems, once you fill the stunt meter.

Gems can be used for purchasing new vehicles; in addition, you can use them to upgrade vehicles just as the upgrade coins can be used. So if you are close to unlocking a new vehicle with upgrades alone, or you have just unlocked a new vehicle and you want to gain an edge, use your gems for upgrades instead. Gems transfer over to coins at a 1:1 ratio.

Even with all of the upgrades in the world, winning still requires a lot of driver skill and good knowledge of the level. Your goal should be to keep the wheels on the ground by any means possible, which is done by slowing down right before a big downhill so that you can stay on the ground and race down the hill, or slowing down as you come up to a big uphill and then accelerating so that you can gain momentum to race up the hill quickly.

Upgrading your stability will also help keep the wheels on the ground because it stops you from flipping around so quickly. Upgrading grip helps you accelerate better uphill, and upgrading tilt helps you tilt forwards and backwards faster. Speed, of course, is what you need in order to make it to the end of the level before the other racers do, but the more speed you have, the more stability, grip and tilt you will need. The faster your truck is, the more difficult it will be to keep control of it.
