Farm Up and Farm Up HD, two twin games for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, are an excellent pair of farming games that actually puts a storyline to the gameplay. The game puts you in the shoes of Jennifer, a settler who has just bought a farm in the 1930s, and despite it being the Dust Bowl era, the farm seems to have the ability to be fairly productive and in good condition. Read on for the beginner’s guide to Farm Up!
Like many farm games, this game has you raising both annual crops, perennial crops (such as those that grow on trees), and farm animals. But the first thing that sticks out about the game is how BIG your farm is. You begin with a large farm that has multiple old buildings on it that need renovation, as well as lots of weeds and rocks that can be dug up or chopped down.
While it’s a lot to take in at first, all of the tasks that you have in the game will be organized into a bunch of little icons on the left side of the screen. Once you complete a task, you will automatically be given your reward for it.
Most of your quests will involve buying something, such as a decoration, a plant to farm, or other farm plots. To buy your main stuff, click on the shopping cart in the lower right corner of the screen. You can even buy more farm plots here. You can also buy a crop to farm simply by clicking on the empty farm plots.
Wait until the crop is fully grown, and then you can harvest it. If you wait too long to harvest it, though, the crop will end up wilting, and you will only get back a fraction of what you paid for it. If you are using it to complete a quest, wait to sell it until the quest is done; otherwise, you can sell the crops right away by tapping on the barn, picking the crop and hitting the “sell” button. Selling crops gives you silver, which is the main currency of the game.
