Super Cop and Instaram are the two main power ups in the game, with the Super Cop being familiar to those who played the original Smash Cops, but Instaram being brand new. Super Cop maxes out your speed, power and ability to withstand damage for a span of six seconds. Instaram allow you to ram a car without having to wait until the car recharges.
Ramming, of course, is done by pressing the blue button on the lower left side of the screen (or lower right if you are using the left-handed mode). After you ram, you have to wait about 10 seconds before you can ram again. If you ram a suspect from the back, you won’t land a Suspect Smash but you will still do damage; however, if you ram from the side or the front and hit them, you’ll send them flying in a Suspect Smash.
It is possible to cause a Suspect Smash without ramming, though, by speeding up and moving to the front or the side of the suspect, and doing a quick 90 or 180 degree turn and hitting them hard. After doing a smash, you will have to wait for them to come back down.
There are other techniques that can drain the energy of a suspect after you land a smash. Wait under their car, and then as they land, start zig zagging and grinding your front end against their car, or (especially during an emergency stage) start spinning rapidly and hitting their car with your front and rear ends. Both will very effectively damage their cars.
In each stage, you have five possible stars that you can earn. You earn these by taking out as many suspects as possible, finishing quickly and not taking damage. In each of those three categories, you can earn bronze, silver or gold. If you get all golds, you earn 5 stars.
