From early on in the game, you’ll have a lot of construction to do, so make sure to follow the quests in order to get everything built that you need to build. You’ll be able to complete all sub-5 minute construction immediately. Beyond 5 minutes, though, and you either have to wait for it to finish, or wait for it to get below the 5-minute mark so that you can finish the upgrades instantly.

Join or create an alliance as soon as you can. If you don’t care about being the alliance leader, joining one will speed up gameplay the most, especially as you and your alliance members can speed up each other’s construction projects. Unlike most games of this type, though, you can create an alliance for free, so if you want to be the leader, do that before you get too involved with another alliance.

For battle prowess, you always want to be increasing your number of ships and your number of pirates. You can hold more ships by upgrading the dock, and more pirates by upgrading your tavern. Upgrade your pub in order to hire more types of pirates, and upgrade your shipyard in order to build more types of ships. Sell ships if you need to in order to make room for the more advanced ships once you’re able to build them.

You can upgrade your ships individually, as well, in order to increase their effectiveness. Just tap on the ship and a list of upgrades will pop up. You can also unlock Jack’s ship, the Black Pearl, by completing the Black Pearl missions inside of the story mode of the game. These will require various levels of battling. To speed these battles up (because they will be time limited), you might need to hire more ships and split your fleet in between multiple battles at once.

Keep your fortress upgraded in order to unlock new buildings and new upgrade levels for each building that you already have. You’re going to need to meet specific requirements in order to unlock each building and/or upgrade level, but the cornerstone is always the fortress.
