Pokémon GO has become the biggest video game of any platform – mobile or otherwise – to come to market in years. In this game, you catch Pokémon, and just as importantly, you need to get their candy. Candy is required in order to power up your Pokémon and, if applicable, to evolve your Pokémon. Even rare Pokémon and starter Pokémon need candy in order to evolve or power up, but unfortunately, that candy can be tougher to get. Luckily, there are still ways to load up on rare candy, starter Pokémon candy, and otherwise. Read on to find out how to get more candy for every Pokémon!
The way to get candy for any Pokémon, common or rare, or at least the most basic way to do so, is to catch that Pokémon. Whenever you catch a Pokémon, you get three of their candy. This mkes candy fairly easy to get if you are going after a common Pokémon, but if you are going for a rare, it is still slightly tougher.
The other main method of getting candy is to transfer one of your Pokémon to Professor Elm. Make sure that it is a Pokémon that you won’t miss when it’s gone because you will not be able to get it back after you transfer it over. Once the transfer is complete, you will get one candy for that Pokémon.
Starter candy can be a little bit tougher to get because the starters themselves are fairly rare. However, there are still many places where you can catch the starters, especially the lowest-evolution starters. And their candy works for all evolution levels, obviously – so a Charmander Candy will work for Charmeleon and Charizard, for example. Pikachu also counts as a starter Pokémon, and like the others, it can be found fairly randomly – often in downtown areas where a lot of electricity flows.
Rare Pokémon will be tougher to get but in order to get more rare candy, you’ll need to find more of the rare Pokémon. Aside from catching them at random locations, be sure to constantly hatch eggs. You can hold up to nine eggs at a time, and you should always be hatching them as you get them. Go for long walks, runs, and bike rides to get the eggs hatching, or like some folks, fly a drone around if you are really willing to risk dropping your phone from high heights. You have to walk/bike/etc with the game open so throw it into Battery Saver mode to make sure that it uses minimal juice.
Focus on gaining experience levels because rare Pokémon appear with higher frequency in direct proportion to how high your experience level is. That means go to a crowded area with a ton of Pokestops and collect items (and experience, since Pokestops give you experience points). When you see Pokémon, even if you have a ton of them already (like Pidgey or Rattata), catch them and catch them often for the experience points (and obviously for the candy). The higher your level gets, the more rares you will find, so the more rare candy you can get.
