Pokemon Masters is the biggest mobile game in the surprisingly-loaded Pokemon mobile game series since the O.G., Pokemon Go took the world by storm. This one centers around the trainers and their sync pairs, or which Pokemon they are paired with. Each trainer has only one Pokemon, but occasionally, that Pokemon is capable of evolving.
Additionally, Mega Evolutions are a recent addition to the Pokemon franchise, and while they have yet to show up in Pokemon Go, they do exist here, so we’ll tell you how to make those happen. You will also need Evolution Shards and Evolution Stones to finish out your evolution quests.
Read on for a guide to Evolution and Mega Evolution in Pokemon Masters!
Evolution
To start off, you should know which of the Pokemon can evolve in the main series and in other games, as they’re mostly the same here, but there are some Pokemon that can’t evolve, period, even if they can in other games. For example, your trainer’s Pikachu can’t evolve into Raichu, much like Ash’s Pikachu in the anime.
For those that can, though, the first requirement is to level up the sync pair, or the trainer-Pokemon combo, to level 30. This can be done through a combination of battle grinding and applying level-up manuals to the sync pair. Once they hit level 30 minimum, then they will be eligible to evolve.
Once you hit Level 30, go to the Sync Pair Stories and you’ll see that a new story battle will unlock. In order to enter this battle, you will need five Evolution Shards, You can get those at Tricia’s Store in exchange for coins, and once you have them, you’ll have one entry into the battle.
Be aware that the evolution battle is extremely tough to beat, though, so you won’t want to auto-battle it. In fact, you’ll also want to be over the minimum evolution level before you even think about spending Shards, simply for the reason that it will be easier to win the battles and not waste your shards.
The Second Evolution
The first evolution gives you a Stage 1 Sync Pair. With three-time evolving Pokemon, you’ll be able to evolve them a second time, to reach a Stage 2 Sync Pair. First of all, you need a minimum level of 45 to unlock that evolution battle. Again, this battle will show up in the Sync Pair Stories area.
To open this battle, you’ll need Evolution Stones, which are far more expensive than Evolution Shards, of course. Also, this battle will be very, very difficult, so wait until you’re at a higher level than just 45. Don’t enter this battle until at least level 50 or you’re liable to waste your Stones.
For each of these battles, once you win, you get your new, freshly-evolved Pokemon added to the Sync Pair. This will greatly boost the stats of the new Pokemon compared to the old one, and will also give your Sync Pair a new Sync Move.
Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution evolves a Pokemon into its Mega form for the duration of a battle, as seen in both the anime and in various titles in the series, beginning with Pokemon X and Y. Once the battle is done, said Pokemon will return to normal.
In Pokemon Masters, the way to trigger a Mega Evolution is by activating the Sync Move. For Pokemon that can use Mega Evolution, the Sync Move is itself a Mega Evolution.
The following Sync Pairs can currently Mega Evolve, but expect more to be added to the game as more Sync Pairs are added:
Agatha/Mega Gengar
Blue and Mega Pidgey
Bugsy and Mega Beedrill
Karen and Mega Houndoom
Korrina and Mega Lucario
Noland and Mega Pinsir
