The combat happens automatically, with your job being to upgrade your tower behind the scenes. You start with a shotgun, and you can add levels to your tower with close-range and long-range weapons. The close-range weapons tend to be the cheapest, while the long-range weapons are more expensive.
The bottom two levels of your tower should be close-range weapons, such as the saw or the shocker. You can build up to six total levels on your tower, and the top four should be the machine gun, although the medium-range weapon is good for the third and fourth levels. Either way, enough upgrades and you will eventually be victorious.
Each of your levels can be upgraded once you choose your weapon. You can do five upgrades to evolve each level, which creates a massive boost in damage dealt in addition to other bonuses. Significantly increasing the damage dealt by your close-range towers will enable you to easily deal with large hordes of enemies.
You can tap and hold on to the screen to aim the shotgun that your character holds. This is useful because, on many levels, you will have airborne enemies that the automatic targeting has a hard time dealing with. In addition, this allows you to concentrate on the spawn points and let your secondary weapons deal with the hordes of enemies.
You can get rare equipment that allows you to increase your attack power and health significantly, but there is no way to merge equipment to increase the rarity. To increase the rarity of your equipment, you have to continually spend gems to unlock more equipment, and the equipment shop will level up as you spend more and more. This will increase the rarity of the equipment that you get, and allow you to unlock even stronger equipment.
The equipment rarity tiers are common, great, rare, excellent, unique, epic, legendary, eternal, supreme, mythic, and immortal. The higher the level of your store, the better the tiers that you will unlock. You won’t be able to get immortal equipment until you level your store to level 19, which is the highest level.
After you completely beat one chapter, you will be able to fight against the boss of that chapter. Every piece of health that you take away from the boss will be gone the next time that you Try to defeat the boss again, so no matter how many times you play, you will eventually win, even if you do zero upgrades, although upgrades will make everything quicker.
