From the beginning, follow the quests to progress. These will challenge you to upgrade your knights, deal with council affairs and political issues, levy taxes and recruit new troops, and will show you your way around the early parts of the game overall, so you’ll know what you’re doing.

Not only that, but the more of them you complete, the more resources you get. And as you complete more of them, you’ll automatically earn new knights as a reward for completing them. The more knights you get, the more powerful your kingdom overall can be.

Go to battle and keep fighting and fighting, and get as far as you can. Keep fighting until you run out of troops; that’s how you know you need to upgrade. Once you’re done with that fighting, you’ll have a ton of coins available to spend.

Take those coins and go to the knight upgrading area, and upgrade your knights to the highest possible level, especially those knights which are stronger in the Military area. Then go back to the campaign battles and you’ll have a newly-rejuvenated and far-higher batch of troops to use.

You’ll first marry Sidonie, then more consorts as you get further into the game. Visit a consort often to produce an heir. You can raise up to two heirs at a time; once they are educated and are adults, you can marry them off. This unlocks another slot to raise another heir, so that you can raise as many of them as you want.

Continually visit the castle so that you can unlock more and more consorts. Each consort has an affinity with a knight (for example, as a sister, daughter, close friend, cousin, etc), so when you unlock a specific consort, and you have her knight, she will boost his stats sky high just by being your wife.

Early on (and generally throughout the game) you want to increase your prestige as much as you can, as quickly as you can. To do this, fight battles and win, but also look for prestige potions in your inventory. Use them when you get them; there really isn’t a better or worse time to use them, so immediately is good.

Be sure to hit the Council Affairs building frequently. The more you go here and take care of your people and their problems, the more resources you’ll earn. Weigh options well but keep in mind that there is no “happiness” meter or threat of rebellion in your kingdom, so pick which option is the best for you as far as resources go.
