Top Drives is a new game for the iOS and Android platforms that combines racing and card-battling a la the Supercard series. Instead of athletes, you have hundreds of cars to choose from, from classics to modern, from completely useless to 1000-horsepower hypercars. Your goal is to put five cards against your rival’s five cards, take the track types, race types, and weather into consideration, and beat your opponent with the best strategy that you can come up with. Read on for some tips and tricks forTop Drives!
You have five main stats that should be considered when you are picking combinations. Top speed, 0-60 time, grip, drive configuration (FWD, RWD, AWD), and the tire type all make a difference. With difference races, different stats will be important – the relevant ones for a specific type of race will all be highlighted in blue on your cards and on the rival player’s cards.
With any race, if you want to skip ahead to the end, tap the screen after the race begins, and it will skip ahead to about one-two seconds before your car crosses the finish line. This speeds things along if you don’t want to watch the whole race, and allows you to cram many more races into a short period of time.
When you finish a race with at least one star, you’ll be able to pull one card for each star that you earned. Play the same racing circuit again to earn more of the cards from the specific race’s selection. Once the cards run out, then you won’t earn anything if you win that racing circuit again; you’ll have to move onto a different circuit.
Once you unlock a specific country, you can jump around to whatever race inside of that country that you want to. This makes it easy to earn a bunch of stars and skip races that don’t suit your cars; for example, if you don’t have enough vehicles that are good at off-roading, then avoid the off-road levels. If you don’t have vehicles that have sky-high grip (tiny slow high-grip hatchbacks like the Chevrolet Spark are a good example), then avoid the go-karting levels.
Gold is the premium currency of the game, and is great for use to buy more cars with, as well as other boosts (don’t waste gold on speeding up the stage-2+ upgrades, though). Hit the Free Gold button o the main menu to watch as many videos as you can for five gold apiece. Eventually, the gold will run out; simply wait out the time that it takes to replenish, and then watch all of your free videos all over again.
